In this portion after a brief reintroduction Blane talks about what librarians can accomplish when they believe in themselves. He talks about different way’s he’s pushed his staff out of their comfort zones over the years, including turning some of his librarians into tv stars!
Other topics included knowing your organziation’s culture, how to get buy in from your staff, advice for midcareer professionals, information about FLICC and Fedlink.

DC/SLA Radio is back! And in honor of the SLA Leadership Summit starting this week we’re kicking off the new year with our Library Leaders Series by interviewing Blane Dessy. Join us for Part 1 of our interview where Blane talks about how he started his library adventure. In fact, if you were going to make a movie about Blane’s career, a good title might be: Blane’s Excellent Adventure. He’s had such an interesting and successful career, it seems to us as if he’s been on a career-long adventure, culminating in his current position as the Executive Director of FLICC/ (Federal Library and Information Center Committee) Fedlink (Federal Library and Information Network) at the Library of Congress.
