DC/SLA Radio: Being More Than the MLIS

Join us for our final installment of our interview with Blane Dessy, Executive Director of FLICC and Fedlink at the Library of Congress.

After a brief reintroduction Blane talks about preparing librarians and library students with management and leadership skills, being more than just the MLIS, the importance of writing, vendor portfolio management, what he does in his spare time, and mentors/personal trainers.

DC/SLA Radio: Don’t Mess with Librarians

DC/SLA Radio: Don’t Mess with Librarians

Librarians learned how to kick some butt back in our first League of Lethal Librarians Self Defense class! If you couldn’t make it to the class don’t worry DC/SLA Radio has you covered. Listen as Evan Dzierzynski, owner of NOVA Self Defense, describes the physical and mental changes the body undergoes when faced with danger, the body’s hard wired flinch response, and answer questions from our members.

We even have some demo clips from the event.

If you can reach for a seat belt you can strike with an elbow:

See how you can attack like a bear with a face rake:

Finally see our instructors demo how to escape from a rear strangle attack:
