Each Fall, DC/SLA awards the Catherine A. Jones Memorial Scholarship to member who is enrolled in an MLS program. This award is generously sponsored by IOP Publishing.
This year’s recipient is Katherine (Katie) Kane. Ms. Kane is enrolled at the School of Library and Information Science at The Catholic University of America (CUA) and expects to receive her degree in 2014. She is currently employed at the DuFour Law Library at CUA. She has a background in the arts and humanities, and plans to pursue her profession in academic and cultural heritage institution libraries.
Ms. Kane was chosen as the scholarship recipient because:
- She clearly articulated her professional goals and anticipated contribution to the profession and DC/SLA.
- She has a track record of outstanding leadership on the chapter level. She served as Vice President of SLA/CUA, and planned and implemented an active program of library tours, social events and a career planning program.
- Her recommendation from a CUA faculty member called out her course work as “absolutely at the top of her class”, and highlighted her collaborative leadership skills with regard to her involvement with SLA/CUA.
- She states that she has befitted enormously from the time the info professionals have volunteered to her through tours, panels, and discussions and looks forward to offering the same help to future students.
Both Ms. Kane and our sponsor, IOP Publishing, will be recognized at the Annual Meeting on December 3, 2013.
